Mariel Mercado-Guevara is an Associate in the insurance coverage department in our Firm’s New York City office. She focuses her practice on insurance coverage issues, and represents domestic and international insurers and reinsurers in a wide range of complex insurance coverage disputes arising from commercial general liability, construction defects, builder’s risk, and professional liability policies, among other things. She has extensive experience in advising clients on claims handling issues and developing cost-effective strategies in coverage disputes. Mariel also has counseled a wide array of clients from mid-sized businesses to Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of complex and sophisticated legal matters.

Mariel utilizes her past insurance defense experience and insurance coverage expertise in state and federal courts to identify early opportunities for favorable outcomes to her clients in litigation coverage disputes in jurisdictions across the northeast region. On behalf of her clients, Mariel prepares thorough coverage analyses, which formulate strategic plans, analyze complex litigation and policy issues, and employs innovative and cost-effective solutions.

She has also represented clients in high-profile coverage disputes at arbitrations and mediations and has been instrumental in trial preparation for various multi-million-dollar insurance coverage and defense matters. Prior to joining Marshall, Conway, Bradley & Gollub P.C., Mariel gained experience in the insurance industry from renowned insurance defense law firms in the Northeast Region of the United States. She is licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey as well as their respective federal courts. Additionally, Mariel is a public speaker, having presented CLE’s on insurance coverage issues and trends, diversity equity and inclusion and cultural competence CLE’s with the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Before practicing law, Mariel was a professional opera singer for four years, where she sang major roles as a soubrette mezzo-soprano with Aspen Opera Theatre, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Carolina and Virginia Opera.
